Not a bad movie, however it begs the question; why does Hollywierd keep doing re-makes.  For crying out loud, get an original idea and script and make a good western.  Matt damon was horrible as a Texas Ranger.  There are plenty of descriptions of Rangers and their outfits to make that a rather simple wardrobe to put together.  If you have read or studied anything about the Rangers this clown was way off …

The Coen brothers are big on characters. They were probably thinking more eccentric than historically accurate. He reminded me of what a young Teddy Roosevelt might be.

I agree there are a lot of good stories out there, wish they would do more original stuff too.

Either it's some remake that probably shouldn't have been tampered with, or it's something substandard that inevitably winds up on the Hallmark Channel.

This one I liked. It had a feel of it’s own, and wasn’t the Duke classic done in a movie of the week style. I say keep em coming!

Did you know that John Wayne himself made numerous remakes, and that after True Grit, he remade The African Queen, with Kathernine Hepburn. It's the same story, but they made it into a Western.

Here's the deal, allegedly there are only six plots and Shakespeare supposedly invented them all. So, beyond that, everything is pretty much the same. It's a very narrow row to hoe, and Hollywood has been making remakes since the beginning.

Bob's right. Wayne couldn't even help remaking his OWN movies. This new TRUE GRIT captured the tone of the novel much better than the original, I'd say.

"...there are only six plots and Shakespeare supposedly invented them all."

What are they?? Cuz I'm pretty sure the Bible has tabs on that. ;-)
