John Petersen was born and raised on the banks of the Mississippi River in Lacrosse,Wisconsin. He developed an early interest in nature and outdoor pursuits. Being an avid sportsman,especially for waterfall. During this time, John became involved with Ducks Unlimited. Several of his waterfowl paintings were donated and auctioned off to help the cause for Ducks Unlimited.
John has shown a keen interest in Western Art as well,and has created a number of works focusing on Native Americans and the Fur trade era. The paintings depict an historical nature,but do not portray a specific time or place. The story is set in motion in the painting and left to the viewer to finish.
