Ahh, my favorite time of the year, the weather is perfect, the wildflowers are blooming, and the snakes are coming out of hibernation to make me as nervous as Barney Fife after a pot of coffee.
Snakes love to mess with me, they know to pop up at the oddest times and scare the guapo out of me, usually with a group of my unmerciful cowboy buddies to watch my high-steppin' little girl screaming performances.
I don't hate snakes, oh, I've despatched lots of serpents in many ways when they don't yield, but prefer to catch and release in hopes of improving my snake karma. I still will have the "heebie geebies" for weeks from breathing the same air as them. As they say, it comes with living in the desert, (I lived on the beach for a dozen years in complete snake-free bliss!)
Here's a beauty that my kids and grandkids enjoyed terrorizing last week while off-roading up in Moab, Utah.

That's beautiful country, but I'll still stay with mine. It's greener and I hardly ever see a snake. We don't have quite the same majesty as depicted behind the 4ws but we don't have to go very far west to find some. ....
And did I mention, we hardly ever see a snake?
Comment by Sue Cauhape on April 8, 2012 at 9:46pm What a beautiful hatband that critter would make, but I'm glad for the sake of snake karma it's still alive. It IS still alive, I trust?
We almost moved to Tucson a few years ago, but in checking out the scenery, I realized that coming from a place with evergreens and fuzzy critters to a place where everything's all prickly and hissy was just too much of a change.

Having lived in Washington state for many years, I can attest that they too have rattlers, though mostly in the eastern parts. I have seen some pretty large ones ther.
I hope you took those pictures with a long-range lens,,,,lol
Comment by Sue Cauhape on April 9, 2012 at 10:04am Mundo, Richard's stompin' grounds look like Truckee in springtime. Aaah, the memories.
Chet, your little friend looks like he's cold and wants to go inside. As I recall, it's a bit chilly in Park City, even in summer. Poor little guy.
I don't know theres just something about 'em." from one of my favorite western movies", no i'm sure about it I hate em.
Nope, don't hate 'em. Love 'em on a hat band or a pair of boots.
