Before I came into work, I whipped out another study of a subject matter I can't let go of. I call this "Last Light On Morningstar #87".
Also working on a set piece: Wyatt Earp Stands In Dust.
And here's a second stab at it:
Like the dust. Face is still not quite right. I'll get it. Did these this morning as well. Got up at five and bailed in. I could do worse than to emulate this sketch:
Remember Disney's Lone Ranger project, which was so famously reduced in budget from $250 million down to $200 million? Well, the rumor is rampant that the shoot has not been smooth and the budget has ballooned up to $300 million and counting. I still hope they can pull this off, but after the debacle of John Carterthis is troubling to hear.

Comment by Jim Holden on May 4, 2012 at 11:00am They are going to have a huge success in "The Avengers" apparently, and it is looking to top all the records for financial success.....but it is worrisome that this Lone Ranger will spiral out of control and further damage the Western Genre. I suppose I'm just not a Johnny Depp fan, but it's not suprising, when you hear an influential actor say how they are going to re-intrepret the character and story, that the picture spirals out of control, ending up a gigantic commercial failure; shades of "Heaven's Gate", and Chuck Heston & Sam Peckinpah in "Major Dundee" although both of them have achieved a cult classic status.
I sure hope the studio, at least gives us the entire film, and doesn't cut it up, which always spells disaster!
Comment by Marion Payne on May 4, 2012 at 12:02pm Are those vultures we are beginning to see on the far distant horizon? Is that sweet desert smell beginning to contain a hint of something else? I hate to see The Lone Ranger sink again. For sure would be that story lines death knell. But who knows, maybe for the kids of today it may just be a boomer. With sequels where in Tonto becomes the lead. (Not).
Comment by Marion Payne on May 4, 2012 at 12:04pm Love the top painting. Are you ever going to sell something like that in prints? I'd buy one.
Comment by Bob Boze Bell on May 5, 2012 at 11:26am Yes, Marion, when I get the look I want we'll do prints. Thanks for asking.
Comment by Mary L Fiore on May 6, 2012 at 5:13pm Bob, that 'head shot' is great. But it looks like Sam Elliot.
Comment by Bob Boze Bell on May 7, 2012 at 8:39am It is Sam Elliott, drawn from a publicity still from, I believe, The Sacketts? Using him as a template, I worked this weekend on a hybrid between Earp and Elliott that i think it pretty damn close. Sketches to follow.
Comment by Geoff Stevens on May 7, 2012 at 8:47am It warms my heart to see Skull Mesa and Elephant Mountain or I say Butte, standing guard north of Morningstar.
I love the play of light on the high ridges at sunset. The clouds make it interesting too.
A real nice pretty image, Bob.
