True West Historical Society

How does a woman really know when a man is "IN LOVE" with her? We all can say the words "I Love You" and not actually be in love with that person. Is it possible that to a man there is no difference between being "in love" and simply loving a woman; whereas, to a woman it is as different as black is from white?

Lets talk true west or shall we say true old west. For those men that want more down to earth comments let's discuss reality.
How many of you "men" can actually repair a broken fence, a leaky faucet, a clogged drain, patch a roof, build a room addition, build a home from the ground up or even just a dog house. What about tracking, killing, gutting, or skinning wild game, or better yet actually catch and clean fish? How many of you were taught these skills by your fathers and have actually taught these same skills to your sons?
Or is it just easier for you to live the life of today's western man and go to work and come home to watch tv while you hire someone else to do the rest for you.
Now I know some of you may be offended and may ask the same question of women. Yes I have met many who can not cook nor sew... mainly because no one cared enough to teach their daughters. In case you are wondering I have taken the time to teach mine. All of my older girls can cook, clean, raise children, and sew. When I say cook , that is without a microwave or a prepackaged meal in a box. We lived without electricity for a month and they learned to do things at night by candlelight and hand wash clothes. I have also empowered them to seek advice and knowledge from others who have more experience so that they might not make the same mistakes. I only hope that they will pass on their knowledge and skils to their children along with our family recipes.
So my challange to those who want more True West comments and blogs... keep family traditions alive from the Old West.. teach your children to do what our ancestors did and encourage them to pass it on to their children as well.
Furthermore, when someone asks a straightforward question...answer it to the best of your ability if you have the knowledge and experience and allow others the freedom of speech.

Interesting comment, Remo. It illustrates the difference between men and women. Yes, we do think differently, and it is interesting that you would perceive it as "too much." This is not a criticism, just an observation.

Somewhere I once heard the comment that the west was won by men and civilized by women. We are different. I don't care what the NOW gang says, men and women are different, It's in our DNA. What I resent is living in a society that expects me to act and think like a man. I'm all for equal opportunity in the workplace and equal pay for equal work, but that's as far as I go. When it comes to how I want people to treat me I make no distinction between the proper 1880s lady I portray when I'm reenacting and the person I am in 2009.

Yes, Rose, I too have had people get snippy with me on my blog. Unlike the discussion forums, a blog is an on-line journal and in the world of "webeiquette" is considered to be less formal and more personal. That said, I do try to keep some sort of a western theme in my blogs, but from time to time I have to assert myself and remind folks that it is my blog, and if they don't want to read it skip it and go to the next post.

Another thing I do is set the comments so I can approve them. I call it "setting the parental controls." 99.9% of the time I approve, but when the occasional troll comes along his or her comments are deleted and never see the light of day.

One word of caution though. I would try not to get overly personal on a blog post. Anyone with a computer can read these, and you don't want to set yourself up to become a victim of a cyber-stalker.

Women place too much emphasis on mere words and expect (IMO) the pre-packaged version of happiness often sold to them by the media. Find someone - get happy- fall in love.

Women think too much.

I agree this is True West... A longing for what was...long ago. True Friendships, long term relationships, families that stayed together, ate together, prayed together. Strong religious beliefs, honoring the flag, bein able to say what is on your mind, ask questions, and the willingness, to listen to the opinions and knowledge of others more experienced than you. I have read several blogs and I only respond to those I feel I have the knowedge or experience to properly respond to... I believe those that respond to mine have the same desire to share their knowedge and experience with me. All others will simply ignore my blogs.

There is a website you may want to investigate. http://www.datinggoddess.com/ The lady that runs it is an author I know through the professional speaking community. She may have more information about what you're looking for.

Why does this resemble round two from the first thread of this nature? I don't mean to sound uncaring because I do not mean that at all. I just think that True West is not the place for these types of threads concerning love between a man & a woman. You should be asking these types of questions on a website that deals with that type of thing. This is suppose to be an old west site.

I think George said it best... "Turn around and see whats walking behind you. You would be surprised to see someone who thinks the world of you. Look hard he's there."

What are you looking for in a man. Looks, Muscles, Brains, Money, Eye Candy. Stop looking for that type as usually they have big ego's and you won't be able to stand them. Turn around and see whats walking behind you. You would be surprised to see someone who thinks the world of you. Look hard he's there.
