Cold weekend. Pipes froze on Friday night. Woke up to no water on Saturday until around noon when the pipes evidently thawed out. Chicken coup water bowls frozen solid. My neighbor Tom Augherton went to Lowe's and got heat lamps and and installed them in his coup and mine. Thanks Tom!

Worked on Doc Holliday's Last Gunfight over the weekend. Here is my first take on it:

The sketch anticipated an O.K. Corral-Fremont Street scene but since Doc's last gunfight was in Leadville I need good street scenes of that high mountain town. Even better, I need the part of town where Doc shot it out with the guy he owed money to, one Billy Allen (long thought to be the same Allen as in Tombstone, but Gary Roberts has disproven this)

Meanwhile, went home for lunch today to meet the plumber (clogged drain in bathroom) and after lunch noodled another cover story idea we're working on "Was Wyatt Earp A Horse Thief?"

Daily Whipout #110, "Was Wyatt Earp A Horse Thief?"

  Bob,

Doc had his encounter with Billy Allen in Manny Hyman's saloon.Someone, perhaps Doc himself had previously left Doc's 41 calibre revolver behind the bar as Doc didn't want to be seen as the instigator and went about the streets unarmed following Allen's threats. After Doc recovered his pistol he stood by the cigar case next to the bar when Billy walked in.As Allen reached into his pocket Doc then fired.Allen didn't even have a gun on him but since it was the deadline for repayment of a loan and in light of the man's threats most there thought that he meant very serious business. All in all it wasn't much of a gunfight!

Doc may be in the wrong town (buy him a GPS), but the picture is perfect.

Great pictures, 316 Harrison St. Is the address of where I believe the shootout accured. Its on the South end of Harrison St. A great mountain background would be Leadville at its finest.

This is what it looks like today - from here, which includes a layout of the town:  http://www.leadville.com/walktour/combined.htm

That's a frozen egg from our coop in the dog's bowl. Yeah, it's been a bracing winter.
