Cowboy Poet Gathering, Van Horne, Texas Feb 3-6 2011

http://www.texascrossroadscowboypoetry.org/  Expecting uupwards of 23 poets/performers... all comin' on our own nickle for this event... 'n maybe sell some C-D's to offset expenses. This'll be my 2nd go-'round there 'n it's a pretty good time... especially in the El Capitan hotel 'jam sessions' afterward.

How come cowboy poets never have the appearance of traditional poets? Your average poet, more often than not, appears unkempt, wears old worn clothes, and smells in need of a bath. Exactly what you'd expect of cowboy poets. However, cowboy poets are always well groomed, wear pressed clothes that appear brand new, and sport more than plain old witch hazel. All I can guess is that being a cowboy poet is far more lucrative than being a traditional poet. Or perhaps cowboy poets just have a better gift of romance.

Annie Golightly has to be one of my favorite poets and songwritter. We went upstairs above the White Elephant Sallon in Ft. Worth, Texas to hear her one night. As the crowd seated themselves Annie began her stories followed by a song. Someone lit up a cigar and Annie stopped in the middle and said, "Who ever lit that cigar, put it out now or I won't finish the song." At first the man refused and she started to get up to leave. Needless to say he put the cigar out and she continued on. Fantastic lady of Texas.
