Just returned from the National Cavalry Competition at Fort Robinson, Nebraska. Here is a photo from the Pass In Review ceremony held during the competition. There are about 50 horses in the column of fours shown here. That is about half of a full-strength cavalry troop--a rare sight now days. Fort Robinson provided an excellent venue for the competition; the area is chock full of western history and the local terrain provided for challenging tactical cavalry riding.

Wow! That is quite a sight. I remember as a kid in Indiana seeing a cavalry reeactment troop in the Fourth of July parade each year. Your photo took me back to those memories. I think a cavalry troop like that is an awesome sight. Thanks for sharing that.

Reb, it costs about $3,000 to fully equip a cavalryman and horse. That includes weapons. Some of the equipment, such as the picket ropes, must be hand made. It has been easier to get Civil War period equipment and uniforms than Indian War Period items but that is slowly changing. At the Cav Games we had Mexican War, Civil War, Plains Indian War, Southwest Indian War, Spanish-American War, WWI, WWII, and current wars represented. It was impressive. Maybe someday we will have the Revolutionary War and war of 1812 represented.
