I just received word from the family that author Glenn Boyer passed on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14 at the age of 89. His destination is unclear but his intent will be forever known.
"You sons of bitches have been looking for a fight and now you can have it."
—Wyatt Earp
Comment by Margaret-Anne Moore on February 18, 2013 at 10:46am I am sorry to hear this but he lived a lot of years. Whenever dealing with certain subjects, his name usually crops up as the person to check out for information. Please extend my condolences to the family.
Sorry to hear about Glenn Boyer. I often wondered whether he revelled in conflict or if it took a toll on him. Either way, the Wyatt Earp quote is very fitting.
It seems like it was insufficient for him to be simply known as a pioneer researcher who inspired other historians. He ventured into deliberate historic distortion and contentiousness with other researchers because he seemed to regard Earp/Tombstone material as something of a private preserve .While it is quite understandable that he resented those who used his material without due acknowledgement of their large debt to him he also chose a very adversarial path with other Earp researchers who didn't ill use him.I hope that we can cherish the memory of the pioneering historian who did make a big difference to us rather than the all too fallable man and his later professional mistakes.

Comment by Marcus Huff on February 22, 2013 at 9:27pm We were sitting on Glenn's porch in Rodeo, eating green chili and drinking whiskey, when he suddenly implored me to come inside and look through his files. He felt a need to show me things...
We had spent the afternoon admiring art and shooting large caliber weapons. At every instance, I insisted that I had not come to talk about Wyatt and the rest. I had come to learn more about Glenn. We talked about writing, and New Mexico, and the empenadas across the border in Palomas. We talked about Patton and Pancho Villa. We talked very little about Wyatt and the rest.
So, when Glenn insisted that I come inside and look at his files, I sat back further in my chair and lifted my glass of whiskey. "I would rather talk about the here and now, Glenn."
He left it at that.
Here's to the here and now, Glenn. Cheers.
