Okay gang, now that we've beaten the Hatfields and McCoys to death, what did you all think of the premier of Longmire last night?
Haven't seen it yet but it is recorded.
Looks pretty violent (I know you don't like that ;-) ) from the commercials, or is it more like a soap/drama?
The premiere delivered 4.1 million viewers, so they say..
I was one of those 4.1 million and enjoyed it. While there was violence, as would be normal for a sheriff, it focused more on the human drama between the characters. Also, Longmire's a tough old bird, but he hurts deeply from the loss of his wife and is still raw and tender because of it. That makes him a more realistic and multidimensional character. He's an interesting man.
I suspect it would help to have read the books (I have) and know the back story for many of the characters. Although I love "Starbuck" - Katee Sackhoff, it might throw you since the character "Vic" in the books is a dark-haired Italian from Philadelphia - and she is a strong presence throughout the books and Longmire's sometime love interest. Hadn't seen Robert Taylor before, but he give a great performance and "looks the part". The Lou Diamond Phillips character, in the book, is a much bigger man, both in stature and in Longmire's life. We'll see how that goes...overall will keep watching. And yes, it is essentially about murder and solving crimes....
Oh, and a few of the books really delve into American Indian "mystical stuff", hence the scene where the Owl is looking at Longmire through the window early in the show. Lots of American Indian influence in the books, religion, mysticism or maybe superstition.....I really enjoy them.
I liked it. The Sheriff should be a colorful character; trying to overcome the death of his wife and facing new issues alone. The premier made me want to watch again next week.
I liked it. I haven't read the books but now I might. The first show always has to develop characters and throws a lot out. I will watch the following shows.
Good can't wait to se it, especially if it is a good murder mystery show.
The History Channel was happy with the viewership. Their next mini-series will be about Vikings
Well it was alright I guess, not a very well written mystery piece. Hopefully it will get better after the characters are established.
