has anyone ever heard of or read  whatever happened to billy the kid?  some years ago smithsonian magazine published an article on billy the kid and mentioned the man profiled in the book  the article also compared a photograph of him to the authenticated photograph of the kid.  any comments?

I understand that Billy the Kid was shot in the back of the head in the # 10 Saloon by Wyatt Earp who was soon arrested by Pat Garrett who tracked him down to the OK Corral and finally cuffed him under a window at the Lincoln County Courthouse. As least, that's what I heard???
