The movie "The Comancheros" starring John Wayne was supposedly set in the Republic of Texas (1836-1845), yet the Duke is totin' an 1872 Colt SA and that 1892 Winchester carbine that he always carried. What the heck, anyway... it was the Duke!

Will, I agree with your list. But I'd put High Chaparral in front of Rawhide.

Will Killem's Story

THE VIEWS REPRESENTED BY WILL KILLEM ARE NOT NECESSARILY THE VIEWS OF
THE CONCHO COWBOY COMPANY.

My name is Will Killem and I’m the trail boss of The Concho Cowboys.

“I’m a man who never understands the word called danger. I learned to shoot and ride as a child and I never trust a stranger.”

I have a down right mean and ornery disposition and I do not take any guff off of anyone. If you see me coming you better step aside. I mean it now! Tall in the saddle and quick on the draw; I’m always shooting first and asking questions later. Don't turn your back on me.

Mr. Killem
_____________________________________________________________________________________

I’ve always been a cowboy. I learned to ride before I learned to read. I worked on several ranches when I was young and rode rough stock on the rodeo circuit for several years. I’ve gentled and trained many a good horse in my day.

My old west reenactment experience began when I got my first Mattel Fanner 50 toy pistol and I’ve never looked back since. Matt Dillon and I rode a many a mile together. Up until about ‘04, when I joined my first group, I was a lone gunman reenacting on my own. After I joined a group of Texas Ranger reenactors, I decided that there was safety in numbers; not to mention all the great friends that I made. In ’06 a handful of us got together and decided to start the Concho Cowboy Co. and the rest is history. I’ve been all over Texas performing living history reenactments for many events and people. I am a proud member of The Reenactment Guild of America & the National Rifle Association.

I’m an avid West Texas historian and I have given talks about local history and the old west. My greatest pleasure is to see the smiles that we put on people’s faces, especially the kid’s!

Vaya con Dios,
William Porter

I've been a cowboy, a soldier, & a lawman, among other things. I'm currently a free-lance writer by trade. I'm pushing 70 so I'm no longer an active re-enactor. Foolishness in your youth catches up with you in your old age. I rode saddle broncs, bulldogged steers, & jumped out of airplanes when I was younger. I'll give you 3 guesses which one wasn't my idea--& the first 2 don't count.

My hobbies are muzzle-loaders--I teach muzzle-loading & shooting to 4-H & VoAg high schoolers twice a year, at Chaparral WMA down in Dimmit County, about 60 miles from Laredo--& Texas & Western history. I write regularly for the Tombstone Epitaph & have a regular column called Charley Eckhardt's Texas in an ol-line magazine called Texas Escapes. In addition, an on-line pub called Texas Hill Country has started using some of my stuff.

My books include THE LOST SAN SABA MINES (Texas Monthly Press, 1981, OP at present), UNSOLVED TEXAS MYSTERIES (Wordware Press, Plano, Texas, 1990 [co-author]), TEXAS TALES YOUR TEACHER NEVER TOLD YOU (Wordware/Republic of Texas Press, Plano, 1991), TALES OF BADMEN, BAD WOMEN, & BAD PLACES--4 CENTURIES OF TEXAS OUTLAWRY (Texas Tech Press, Lubbock, 2000), & TEXAS SMOKE--MUZZLE-LOADERS ON THE FRONTIER (Texas Tech Press, Lubbock, 2001). The last is a completely illustrated, non-technical history of the muzzle-loading firearm in the Americas from the time the Spanish first got here until 1860, which was the watershed year for muzzle-loaders.

Incidentally, I also like to cook & I keep a file of the recipes that I find delicious, in addition to inventing recipes of my own. I've got a shrimp cocktail sauce that'll knock your sox off. And,for the record, I considered Elmer Kelton a valued friend.

Fall is a beautiful time of year, as it is in many places, in Montana. I just returned from Montrose CO, my first time seeing the CO Rockies driving from Delta east through Paonia, Redstone, Glenwood Springs, Vail, etc. and on into Denver. The colors were starting to turn. Hope you can get up to Dillon soon. Your dad is resting in a very beautiful place.

Hello Will, Dillon is in southwest MT and I'm in Huntley, southeast MT, just east of BIllings 10 miles on the Yellowstone River. Quite a distance apart.
