Had a great time last night at the opening concert of the 2013 Genoa Cowboy Poetry Festival in (of course) Genoa, NV. Waddie Mitchell, Dave Stamey, and Hot Club of Cowtown mingled poetry/storytelling, cowboy songs, and 1930s country swing for a spectacular show. What a night. Then we topped it off with a steak dinner at the Tombstone bar and grill just down the road. I heard today that Mackay Hedges' novel, The Last Buckaroo, may be in movie production. Has anyone heard anything about this? The Last Buckaroo is about two ranch cowboys, Tap and Dean, who roam from ranch to ranch working as buckaroos typically do. It's a great and very realistic story about this way of life told by the real deal, Mackay Hedges. He's still working on Dean's ranch in Montana and is somewhere approaching his 80s.
