Build It and They Will Come

I seem to remember several members of this site saying they plan to be in Tombstone for Helldorado Days Oct 19-21. Why not have a party within the party? Let's start now deciding a time and place where we all can meet for a sasparellie and some Old West story. Reuben at the Old Adobe Lodge had some plans for full attire party at the Bella Union, but that apparently fell through. Shall we meet there anyway? Somewhere else? Any suggestions? Oh, and the invitation is for as many True West…

Fire Danger in Tombstone

I've been following the developments re: Tombstone's water shortage and conflict with the Forest Service since last year's Monument fire.

My understanding is that although there a couple alternate water sources, Tombstone is at increased risk, and might not have the resources to battle a large fire in town, thus possibly facing a repeat of the catastrophic fires of the 1880's.

Question: If, God forbid, such a catastrophic fire were to occur, would the town have the benefactors…

"The Last Stand," by Nathaniel Philbrick

I just finished this book about the background and last hours leading up to the massacre of General Custer and his troops at the Little Bighorn. While I must admit this is the first book Ive read on the subject, it was one of the most informative and riveting historical accounts I have ever read. Philbrick's detailing of the battle at Last Stand Hill and those involving Major Marcus Reno and Captain Frederick Benteen, was the best Ive read since DeArment's depiction of the Battle at Adobe…

Hi Steve: Why don't you call Guidon Books in Scottsdale. 480-945-8811. They are really good with out-of-print books. You also might try James Deniston up in Jackson Hole 307-734-7008. Also Bob Pugh, Tucson. 520-293-1260.
Good luck.

More on books.

I am currently trying to get through "John Ringo - King of the Cowboys" by David Johnson. I have expected to read a lot of anti Earp / Holliday books and such but this one is pretty blatant about it. Not that I mind this point of view but the extend Johnson goes to in some cases is making it hard for me to get through more than a hand full of pages at a time.

I would be interested in your take if you have read this book.

If you are looking for simply a fun/fast read I suggest "Black Hats: A Novel of Wyatt Earp and Al Capone" by Patrick Culhane. The emphasis is on Novel
