"I got this photo from Elbert Garcia. I believe this really is Billy. It all fits. I posted several photos that are purported to be Billy but not many of them fit the bill like this one does in my opinion."
"this is certainly the sly mouth of btk and even a view of the buckteeth, framed by round parenthetical jowls as in the tintype.
helps we know who the other boy supposedly is for some background...
ok how much for it here and now on ebay? lol"
"the ears are reminiscent of the gabacho image, but more importantly my computer finds no mismatch when contrasted to the unknown seated 'tanned' billy,
which matches the tintype and the deAragon...
you sure this aint a morph of…"
"While the kid had a nub of a chin he also had a pretty strong jaw. This is a picture of Billy and Deluvina and Paulita look like other pictures of both young women. BTW: there are several pics of Paulita wherein she…"
"hi there, just throwing my opinion out here, if that is the kid, he would be pretty young at that point, and if im not mistaken, he went by Henry Mccarty at that age and didnt go by william h bonney till later in life, like i say just an opinion, i…"
"i think it would be great if this were real and im not one to need everything authenticated, just to appear legeitmite, doesnt this guys chin seem a litte small? in my opinion it does, but beleive me i want to see real pics of the kid other than the…"
"Don: You are right, that is a Colt Lightening, but is it a large frame? When I look a the distance between the back end of the charging handle and the front of the frame it looks rather like a small frame to me, which would place the picture…"
"I agree, Polly. I know my collection was owned by Sallie and I know here niece owned it to. About half of the pictures are of her family. Has to have been hers. Sure she collected the kid's pic along with other…"
"Steve, Sometime ago I saw something on TV about the Kid and it was said that his father may have died as a prisoner in the Civil War. So much misinformation is floating around out there about Billy. Even he gave different information to census…"
"Meeting Billy the Kid. There is evidence in my family, and it has been a family legend for a very long time, well before I was born, that the kid was my GG grandfather's brother's son, John McCarty, who died in Andersonville prison…"
Hello to all, I am new to True West. I love researching the old west and I'm a huge fan of Billy the Kid. A friend of mine recently shared a photo of Billy the Kid with me. I'm not sure if there is any provenance as of yet for this photo. It is purported to be Billy and Mariano Ulibarri and belonged to a lady who lived in Anton Chico. I would appreciate comments and opinions about this photo.
Hello Melvin, Thank you for your response. It may not be Billy. That is what I'm trying to determine. There are so many purported photos floating around out there these days and many of them have no resemblance to the authenticated one. But, that one in my opinion is so distorted that it's probably nothing like Billy really looked in life.
Here is a link to a web site I found. This lady is supposed to be an expert in photography and being able to determine if a picture is a picture of a particular person. Anyway, if I understand her right she has determined that the de Aragon could not be Billy. I thought that photo had been tested and found to be a probable photo of William Bonney. She also looked at a photo belonging to Steve McCarty and she has determined that picture also to not be Bonney. I would love opinions about this. Here is the link. http://www.photorestorics.com/article-324.html
Joelle Steele's bottom line is that though she can rule out photos as being BTK, she will never be able to definitely rule a photo in, as the only known and accepted exemplar of a BTK photo is of such poor quality.
It’s real rare that we have a photo expert and a preeminent internet research whiz like you all in one person on TW. So far you have found and posted twelve photos you found on the internet that are claimed to be Billy. Astounding; fantastic. If it’s found on the internet, it has to be true. Keep them coming because there can’t be enough. You’re making that guy that bought the Fort Sumner tintype for a million bucks look like he was had. Nice work! Expect to be a consultant to BBB.
Thanks for posting that link! I had never seen that website and there was one alleged Billy there I had never seen. I have no idea how solid that person's credentials are for facial comparison but it's interesting nonetheless.
