"I heard that the indians gave them the name "Buffalo Soldiers", because they would wear the buffalo robe.  I have seen the robe on several occasions.  I am not an expert but I have heard of this name from the National Archives."

I believe what you READ was the same theory that by the time a story  is told three times it becomes something else. We have Indian ancestry in my family's history!!!
