In every field of historical interest are conmen. Some are low end (like a person recently banned from this blog) and some are high end. In any case, a con is con (aka a crime). The link is to an…Continue

Olaf Wieghorst – “Dean of Western Painters”

I like the movie “El Dorado” quite a lot and just noticed that the paintings of Olaf Wieghorst are featured during the beginning credits and theme song.  He also had a small role in the movie playing Swede Larsen and he put on an exaggerated Swedish accent that I found quite amusing. Wieghorst was born in Denmark in 1899 and came to the U. S. in 1918.  He served in the U. S. Cavalry and later worked as a cowboy in New Mexico and Arizona.  He also served as a mounted policeman in the NYPD.  He…See More

Tribute to Laurette Lee

I like trains and railroaders.  Laurette Lee was a railroader and was the Amtrak conductor killed when a semi broadsided the westbound California Zephyr east of Reno on June 24, 2011.  Though I didn’t know Laurette personally, I rode with her out of Reno eastbound about a year ago.  She struck me as very stern and very much in charge.  Just do what the lady says and don’t sass I thought to myself!  For the past three Thursdays I’ve had the opportunity to visit the Reno station to watch the…

The Cowboys Overture

I had the honor and privilege of seeing Peter Nero conduct the Philadelphia Pops in front of Independence Hall last night (July 2). What a glorious setting to kick off the 4th of July weekend. As expected, the concert consisted primarily of patriotic music. But he did throw in a “western” piece due to the lasting impact cowboys have had on…

Thank you, Mel. That's only part of what the Trust does. There's other far ranging work in historic preservation, communications, media, and education, that rarely gets noticed. We should have a new announcement forthcoming soon.

Thank you kindly for your nice words. I see that you are into Civil War history...I have been finding out some very interesting information about my ancestors and their involvement in the CW in Berryville, Ark...I have some photos and CW docs (you've probably seen similar a thousand times) in my family album...but it's particularly fascinating because many of these docs back up family stories passed down verbally and in journals...history is amazing!

About the Abby comment...
I added her as a friend for the pure reason that I thought that it was a new member and was trying to share the kindness that some others showed me.
Then after a while I realized that it was probably just a spam bot, trolling for information.

Mel, any friend of Gay is a friend of mine. Conspiracy theorists and imposters are a plague trying to revise history. History is what it is, whether they like it or not.

Mel, I've worked in the legal profession for many years. The idea of using a legal action over anything discussed on one of the boards is just silly. Coming to a board like this and announcing to the readership that you've been trying to get people to sue you is even sillier. I don't enter into conversations with the likes any longer. Rollie taught me to ignore things and I do.

It is always a pleasure to hear from you.

Sally Anderson Goodson
