Death of a DVR or Goodbye to Bret Maverick

Sad day in the Hogge household.  Our DVR decided to give up and along with it went my entire collection of the 1982 series, Bret Maverick. Always one of my favorites, I was like a kid at Christmas back in 2010 when the Western Channel brought it back and ran every episode. The bad thing is, I have never been able to find it on DVD, not even the pilot. The Lazy Ace was a light hearted good movie on its own. It was my "go to" when there was nothing to watch and my wife has always liked it as…

Helldorado, I Think???

We just left Tombstone and I'm still not sure if I made a wrong turn and ended up in Sturgis S.D. In years past, Helldorado has been a fun celebration with the majority of attendees dressed in 1880's attire and proudly flaunted their finest. There was an exciting historical atmosphere which gave visitors a feel for the old west and we always left feeling a little closer to our past. In the past, the town had taken the extra effort of blocking and redirecting vehicle traffic away from the…

True West Now Has 2000 Members!!!

Congratulations to the True West Historical Society. The growth of this site says a lot about the great people and noted historians who take the time to share their knowledge and thoughts with all who visit. When I joined there were less than 800 western enthusiast here; I thought that was a lot. I've met many wonderful people here, some I've come to know personally and I treasure their friendship. I've learned more than I could have imagined and spent many enjoyable hours talking about the old… Continue

Kevin, I never dreamed what a stir I would create by putting up a post for a charitable cause on which I don't make a single dime. As you can see, the thread is gone.

Thanks for the warm words, Kevin. I came to this site because I love the Old West. I always have. I get deeply (maybe too deeply, if that's possible) into my research and am proud to be part of a group where I can always find at least one person who knows about any topic I care to delve into. Sorry to have come across as a "traveling" salesman. I guess I got too comfortable on the group and shouldn't have jumped in with both feet. That's what a challenge does to me, I guess. Let's get back to the West.

Kevin, it sounds like we're kindred spirits. I'm in this for the history, first and foremost, and the friendship of kindred spirits like you.

Kevin I have no agenda here that's a fact im not trying to start any trouble. Perhaps my discussion is a bit more leaning towards my side in that case I will edit it within the next couple of days so It reads less like a viewpoint and more like a theory. As an individual I have a right to an opinion as do you and I intend to display my viewpoint for all to see wether they like it or not. I am in no way a fraud or making fraudulant claims. Dont be so jaded towards me. The 1995 exhumation really didn't prove a thing in my opinion there was tooth material taken from an unidentifiable source that was also used for DNA testing. Like I said good luck with calling me a fraud and or claiming I'm a fraud because it's far from the truth.

Respectfully,

Dallas Hunt

Thank you for your kind thoughts, Kevin.

I was going over some photos that I took of the Morgan archive in Wisconsin. I discovered very interesting tintypes. Most marked with G.W. Morgan's name along the bottom. One shows a young man with inky black hair and a very dark handlebar mustache. It's framed just like my picture of the kid. I also found a young gray eyed fellow and five pictures of another gent. I think I found Morgan pictures of John Middleton and Frank McNabb. The man who I think is McNabb is trying on disguises. He also painted a mustache on one of his pictures. Similar to Middleton's. Middleton drew a goatee on his face too, similar to McNabb. So we can conclude that the men were friends and maybe Middleton wanted to be a cattle detective too.

Hello Kevin,
Thank you for your comment...everyone should know the truth and the faces of the old west. Thanks to Photography these images are left to us. It has taken three years to gather these photographs from many different sources...they are our national history and we should all study them to discover the real west.

Happy New year from your friend Dave 'Bat' Masterson-Chapman

Hello Kevin,

just like to say the discussion on " the photographs" is closed as far as I am concerned.
There will be no more responses from me on this subject. Please take a look at my last three comments and the suggestions I have made to improve Picture submissions.

Thanks,

Dave 'Bat' Chapman
