This is a must read for today…Happy 4th of July...CEMETERY ESCORT DUTY
I just wanted to get the day over with and go down to Smokey's. Sneaking a look at my watch, I saw the time, 1655. Five minutes to go before the cemetery gates are closed for the day. Full dress was hot in the August sun. Oklahoma summertime was as bad as ever-the heat and humidity at the same level--both too high.

June 26, 1876 -- Gen. George Armstrong Custer gave up his Presidential hopes
He also gave up his ghost.
Custer had gone east to actually lobby for better treatment for plains Indians, and had been removed from his command as his reward. But, when gold was discovered in the Black Hills, and prospectors flooded into land promised to the Indians "as long as the grass grows", the Indian "problem" worsened, and Custer was reinstated to his command.
In June of 1876, Custer took about 600 men with him and I believe it was Gen Terry went another route, with… Continue

Weed is in the Licoln National Forest in The Sacramento Mountains. It is in South central NM, elevation about 7500, population about 32. It's east of Alamogordo and white sands missle range, South of Riudoso, SW of Roswell, North of Mexico (duh)
