WELCOME TO THE WILD WEST CONNECTION GROUP

WELCOME TO THE WILD WEST CONNECTION GROUP
As a western fantasy writer, writing and reading about the Old West is about the literature of the American West, past and present. It's also about movies and television and history and politics and the environment and anything else that might feed into or flow out of the literature of the West.
Technology pushed the development of the American west as much or more than the need to pasture cattle. Steam powered that technology. Though steampunk is often associated with British settings, it fits as neatly into the Old West as a cowboy’s head into his hat.
To that I'd add that even in non-steampunk westerns (literary or genre) the role of technology in the history of the West tends to get too little emphasis. The era of Billy the Kid and Butch Cassidy was also the era of the telephone, the electric light bulb, and the phonograph. Please join and write reviews, western novels and books, western art or more!

Hi Cheyenne, thanks for inviting me to participate in this forum. Looks interesting.

Last night, Sunday August 19th, was busy on TV. Although I missed Longmire terribly, it has been replaced (for the time being) with the second season of Hell on Wheels on AMC and the season premiere of Copper on BBC America. WOW! That's a goodie. It takes place in Five Points in NYC in the decade after the Civil War and is the story of an Irish detective for the NYPD. Great texture and atmosphere, intriguing plots and characters, and good actors. It's Gangs of New York meets CSI, if you'll pardon me for using that book agent's ploy.

Also, while I'm at it, may I take this opportunity to plug my own book, Paradise Ridge, which I just uploaded as a Kindle book. It's live and available for $1.99. Paradise Ridge is the modern-day story of a northern Nevada buckaroo who was born under the legend of the Seventh Son. The story included Basques, Shoshones, and various other cultures, blending myths and technologies as well as horses and ranching issues. Hope you and your friends will check it out.
