One of the things I do is I'm a history interpreter at the Ft Sill, Ok Museum. Specifically, I portray a Deputy US Marshal from Ft Smith who is at the Ft Sill guardhouse to pick up civilian prisoners for transport to the Federal Court at Ft Smith. This group seems a natural fit.

Howdy Jimmy!
Good to hear from you. I think Sixgun said you were retired LEO. Me too...except I still work as a CSO at the Federal Courthouse here in Ft. Smith. I have over 34 years in with 30 of them being with the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

What Deputy Marshal are you portraying? There were some mighty good ones here.

Keep in touch and IF you should ever stray over this way make sure you let us know and we'll get together. Maybe you can come over some time for an event???

Marshal, The Ft Sill interpreters have two official events each year. In December we take part in the Candlelight Stroll where groups of about 15 visitors are taken on a candlelight tour of the old post quadrangle. They visit the originial post chapel, Sherman House which is and has been the post commanders quarters since the 1870's, the cavalary barracks and the Guardhouse. I portray Jacob Ayers at this event. There is documentation that Ayers made trips to Ft Sill and transported civilian prisoners to Ft Smith to visit the US Commissioner. Our other event is in the summer when descendents of the 7th Cavalary Indian Scouts play a softball game with officers enrolled in the Field Artillery Officers Basic Course. At that event and special tours throughout the year I do a short general explanation of the roll Deputy US Marshals played at Ft Sill. I would love to come over to Ft Smith for one of your events. One of our interperters, Wallace Moore, has done something at the federal courthouse, I believe, that had to do with Bass Reeves.
I'm retired from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, 22 years, and prior to OSBI I was a police officer for 11 years in Oxnard, Ca. After retirement I worked for US Investigations Service for almost 6 years working background investigations for the US Office of Personnel Management. I have been retired since Feb 2007.

Jimmy,
Great to hear from you and it sounds as if you are not only busy with your 'hobby' but that you enjoy it immensely too.
That's great. We will keep you posted on our events coming up and just maybe you could get over this way sometime. We'll have to get some of our folks together sometime and come over that way. I'll have to look up Jacob Ayers. In our IC Parker Federal Courthouse lobby we have some info on the Marshal's that served Judge Parker. I know I have seen that name but I just can't recall particulars.

Take care, keep in touch, and enjoy that retirement...you deserve it...that's for sure!

Hello, I just had to join an "Arkansas" group. I'm from Benton which is about 20 miles southwest of Little Rock. I haven't done much re-enacting but i have been a member of SASS for 12 years and shoot with the Mountain Valley Vigilantes out of Hot Springs and the True Grit Single Action Shooters out of Danville. I revisited the Fort Smith Historical Site last April. Great place!

Welcome aboard Mark. Im originally from Scott just outside NLR. Cotton Country. Visit the lawbreakers main site noted above. We rob trains, banks, stagecoaches and do performances all over this part of the state. We post our events on our site so if you ever want to come to one just let us know ahead of time so we can get your name on our insurance.

Hey Mark! Glad you joined our little group. Why not just transfer up this way or find a job around here and we will get you signed up as a member and before you know it you will be re-living the old west right here. We have a great group and a lot of nice folks that enjoy the history, the companionship, and educating the public on what happened around here in the late 1800's and the whole wild west!
Keep in touch and let us know when you are coming up this way.

Note to all the members. We had a great time in Charleston Today with all the 9th-12th graders from Charleston High school. Skits went well and I think the gun safety class went well.
