Comment by Robert E Lee Hyde on January 10, 2012 at 9:37am Back in 1942 Gene Autry was in the Air Force and was stationed at Luke Field, Arizona. I lived with my grandparents on a small ranch outside Glendale. Their son, my uncle Jay, worked out at the airfield and he brought Gene home with him for Sunday dinner. At that time we still had no electricity, no indoor plumbing, and my grandmother cooked on a kerosene stove. Of course, we had fried chicken. I sat next to Gene, and to this day, can still remember every word he said. Just imagine the thrill it was for a 9 year old boy who had been raised on Gene Autry Westerns to be sitting next to his hero. Wow. What an experience.
Comment by michael a powers on March 8, 2012 at 2:14pm I've been a GA fan all my life. 51 years is a long time. I sing "Back in the Saddle again" along with my version "Back in the doghouse again".
