Baxter Black, described by the New York Times as '…probably the nation's most successful living poet,"…thinks it's an exaggeration.

Always listened to him on NPR, just discovered his novels. A real Westerner, a modern Will Rogers, a new hero for me.

Baxter and Waddie are the best. Heck, I didn't know he did novels too. I'll have to check it out.

Hello REb....glad that you are going to give Baxter a listen. Cowboy poetry is better said than read and it is part of our western heritage so if you ever get a chance to attend a cowboy poetry gathering do try to attend.

lol, I can understand. I was at the Prescott Gathering a few years ago. All places are different. I enjoy them but I am myself. Jeans, boots, shirt and hat!

Glad to see Baxter Black page on TW. I have been to two of his performances and it was well worth the time and money I invested. The first time I met him, the first words of his mouth was “Nice Mustache”
For anyone that hasn’t seen him live on stage you need to make the effort. You won’t regret it and you’ll wonder how time could fly by so fast while your having so much fun.

I just finished "Hey Cowgirl, Need a Ride?" which was a fine fun whopper of a yarn. The story plays on its own, but every now and then Baxter pops in for a say - passages in bold, 'splanin things cowboy or Western or livestock jest a little deeper. The book is kinda a continuation of the life of Lick, the bull-ridin curcuit cowboy from his first nover, "Hey Cowboy, Wanna Get lucky?" which I have not read and now am on a mission to find.
