Good old music Part 2 5 Replies

I have a few more "old" recordings, though most of them were made in the late 20's and 1930's. I have tried to pick out the ones closest to what may have been the original versions #1 The Bridle Ha…

You are very welcome. I would like to share more, but am concerned about the copyright laws. I'll try to look into some of thenewer stuff I have and see if any of it is now in the public domain.

Enjoy those few anyway.

I am going to post some in the discussion forum rather than as comments. that wasy they should stay easy to access. I don't have a lot of information other than name and sometimes apx. date. But I'll do as I can.

I heard it loud and clear!

I know you were "testing" the link so please post some information with each link you post, including date. Personally, this is what I love to hear my friend.

05 FOLLOWING THE COW TRAIL.mp3

I am going to try to upload a file here. It is one of the old songs. Let's see if that works.

Let me play around and see what I can do. No promises, but I'll try. I'll let you know as I progress (or not)

My ignorance is showing. Let me see if I have this right. You want to download them to your website so we can hear them? If I have it right that sounds great! That kind of work can be posted here AND on the main page of TW. Thank you very much, I look forward to hearing them.

I wanted to correct myself. After going back through my files, I realized I had downloaded most of those old songs from the Library of Congress, not the Smithsonian. Sorry for the confusion. It has been about 15 years since I did this. Old timers disease I think,,,lol.

I just wanted to let you good folks know I was able to download some pretty good old music from the Smithsonian institute web site.

Some of the songs:
The Ballad of Cole Younger - Edward Crain (1919)
Billy the Kid - Verno Dalhart (1920)
The Last Longhorn - Carl Sprague (1920)

Most of my collection dates to the 1920s and 1930s, but they are authentic songs of the "old west" sung by talent such as those named above, plus Carson Robison and Elton Britt, not from the "singing cowboy" movies.

A number of the selections are by Alan Lomax. As I am sure you are aware, he and his dad did years of reseach into the old music, both in the west and the south.

As this is almost all "in the public domain" I was able to download it. I included some of it on my poetry CD.

I have a site I upload some of my poetry to and would be willing to upload some of these "public" songs to. I don't know if you can download from there or not, but if interested, let me know and we can try. I believe this is legal, else why would the Smithsonian allow me to download them the first place?

Up to ya'll.
