Gwandine, this is what I found for their first movies..The Crimson Skull (1921) and then The Bulldogger (1923) for Bill Pickett..
They list Herb Jefferies as the only black singing cowboy in movies and his first western listed as Harlem on the Prairie (1937)

Bose Ikard..Buckshot posted a blog post Jan 2009 with a photo, etc..
Excerpt from the TW Blog: In 1866 Ikard joined a cattle drive to Colorado led by Charles Goodnight and Oliver Loving. After Loving was killed by Comanches, Bose continued to work for Goodnight for several more years and became a trusted friend.
