The west, alive and well in Georgia. Last night at the reception for a juried exhibition of the Artists Guild of Northwest Georgia, I was awarded "First Place" for my "Loving Mother" Kachina painting as well as "Best of Show" for my multimedia piece, "Headin' For Trouble." Both had recently been posted here in my photos. This amazing guild of talented artists knock me out with the quality of their work in the juried show each year. It was an honor and a privilege to have won amidst a room full of such talent. Many of the members are active with events at the nearby Booth Western Art Museum, a world-class museum that is surprisingly just an hour north of Atlanta.

Looks to the Past, 20 x 30, oil on linen

This Plains Indian Warrior is glancing behind. He wears honors from past battles. Each eagle feather represents a brave deed and the hand painted on his face tells of an act of courage.

Sees Forever, 24 x 20, oil on linen

This painting is based on a photo from the turn of the 20th century. I painted it in browns and red to resemble a tinted photograph

This Plains Indian wears a feather, beads and trade cloth in his hair. The circle painted around his eye is to give him better vision.

Bear Shield Talisman, 12 x 9, oil on canvas

The Plains Indians would have personal talismans that they could wear as hair ornaments, clothing adornments or hang from their shields, horses, doorways etc.

This painting shows a beaded crystal attached to a shield painted with an image of a bear. This would give the owner the strength and power of The Bear
