Can't wait to read these responses.

I have to agree with "Clementine."

Living here in Tombstone, it's unbearable to watch.

The Westerns channel is having a Randolph Scott marathon today. I can watch him, till he chokes up that stampede string so tight his eyes bug out. Sometimes INDOORS!!!!

The story about Crockett & others surrendering & being executed comes from the so-called 'de la Peña diary.' That diary, at least the portion of it dealing with the Alamo, is a forgery. The forger was one John A. Laflin, a retired UP railroad engineer. He forged some 600 historical documents, including the Isaac Milsaps letter from the Alamo, letters allegedly from Abraham Lincoln & George Washington, & the so-called 'Lafitte papers' now in the Price Daniel, Jr. collection at Sam Houston State University at Huntsville, Texas. The best source of proof for the forgery is Thomas Ricks Linley's ALAMO TRACES, published by Republic of Texas Press, Plano, Texas. The late Tom Linley was a retired US Army criminal investigator. He brought criminal investigation techniques no one else ever had to the examination of the 'de la Peña diary.'
There has never been an 'accurate' Alamo movie. The crap about Crockett being captured/surrendering & then being killed by Santa Anna's officers is just that--crap. It comes from the 'Alamo portion' of the so-called 'de la Peña diary,' which was forged in the 1940s by a retired UP engineer named John A. Laflin. The late Tom Linley, an old friend of mine & a retired criminal investigator, proved the forgery beyond the vaguest shadow of doubt in his book ALAMO TRACES, published by Republic of Texas Press in Plano, Texas.

Incidentally, Laflin forged at least 600 historical documents--that many have been found & proved to be Laflin forgeries--including letters from George Washington & Abraham Lincoln, the 'Isaac Milsaps letter' which was supposedly carried out of the Alamo by Louis Rose, & the entire body of the 'Lafitte papers,' which are currently in the Price Daniel, Jr. collection at Sam Houston State University at Huntsville, Texas.

I liked the Billy Bob Thornton version fairly well, except for the scene where he played fiddle along with DeGuello.

I would have to say one of the worst westerns was "Bad Girls" with Drew Barrymore. The moview was beyond bad. Close on the heels of that was the new version of "The Quick and The Dead" with Leo, Gene Hackman, Russell, Crowe, and Sharon Stone as a gunfighting lady. How can a cast with so much talent get wasted in such a bad movie?
I'm a real stickler when it comes to historical correctness. That being said, I love My Darling Clementine! The characters' names should have been changed, however. If they were the Johnsons or Smiths I don't think anyone would dislike it. Henry Fonda is at his best in this movie. BTW, a REALLY bad one is "I married Wyatt Earp" with Marie Osmond. Also, I caught part of another bad one (but I can't remember the title, maybe I'm blocking)) starring Willie Nelson as Doc Holliday! With long grey hair and beard!.
Stagecoach is the one with Willie Nelson playing Doc Holliday. That movie I dubbed my worst.

what about using old actors to play young people

the big gunfight lee van cleef not good

The most accurate Crockett at the Alamo was Arthur Hunnicutt in THE LAST COMMAND.  John Wayne was 6'4".  Crockett was 5'9".  Crockett was also 60+ years old when he died in the Alamo.  Travis was in his mid-20s.  Bowie was abt 40.  Travis also had at least 3 venereal diseases & probably would have died a horrible death had he not been killed in the battle.

I will agree that Tombstone is one of those movies that is not exactly historically accurate but I think that it is also one of those movies that was able to get away with it so to speak. It had so many great scenes and was so well put together that for me, made it easy to forgive the historical liberties they took. Incidentally, one of the current Arizona Rangers used to be the Marshall of Tombstone
I saw a commercial that the Western Channel was going to be show-casing Wanda Nevada this (or next) month.

WooHooo!!!

I can hardly wait (NOT)
I am just wondering why no one has mentioned Shanghaii Noon with Owen Wilson and Jackie Chan. Talk about historically inaccurate westerns that one takes the cake...
Ha ha ha ha. I'm going to be laughing for the rest of the night.
