I'm doing some work on Luke Short who is buried here in Fort Worth.  I have looked at a lot of sources, books, clips, etc. over the years.  I still haven't found the maiden name of Short's wife "Hettie" who he supposedly married in New York in 1881.  I also read that she married Luke Short's brother John who lived in Arizona after Luke's death, but I'm not really turning up anything factual.

Does anyone have anything that mnight help on this?

TIA

Bob Wood, who's a member of this forum is the go to guy for Luke Short.

He has a web site with a couple of pictures and suggestions?

Hettie Buck & Lou Hette Brown

Thanks.. I've seen these.  However Wayne Short says in his book that Luke met "Hettie" (No last name given) in New York City and did not bring her west until he moved to Fort Worth in about 1884.

Thanks again..

Hi Pete,

I've spent 5 years researching Luke Short and had many of the same questions you have. I own every book, that I know of, written about Luke, every magazine article, newspaper article and still I have questions.

I don't believe Hettie married Luke's brother John since he was already married to Louise (Lou) Brown 1854-1940. I do believe people made that assumption for some reason but I followed that line as far as I could and determined it was not so.

I have a court document showing Hettie's signature as H. Beatrice Short. As far as her maiden name I've found it listed as Brown and Buck but nothing definitive. I don't believe Brown or Buck is correct.

Take a look at my website and then let's share information: www.lukeshort.info

Thanks.. I'll get back on this...

Hey Pete,

It's been almost a year and I was wondering if you have had luck in your research?
