Not sure if this is the right forum for this post. I'm new here and was hoping to get some of your thoughts. Dale Harwood seems considered by most to be the best living custom saddle maker. Unfortunately Dale isn't taking any new orders. Any suggestions on who might be regarded as right there with him or a close second. Beautiful tooling is appreciated but is second on the priority list to a well made saddle that fits a horse as opposed to looking good on one. I'm sure there are a few out there as well that don't get much publicity compared to others.

I know Croft Saddlery in the Black Hils is very good. Tom Selleck bought a couple of Croft's saddles.

here is a URL for his web site

You need to repost and yell out to riders.Cowboys who make their living in the saddle will know the best saddlemakers, even if they can't afford the saddle. And you're right, tooling is beautiful, but style over substance is poor workmanship.Your saddlemaker will ride horses because he wants to know what it does in the field.

Don Butler of Wyoming is one of the finest. Rocky Minster of Arizona is very good also.
