Is There a Community of People Living Like They Did Back in The old Days? If so? Where?

I live in Northern Nevada ... the big empty....

Many times i have wondered if there are any communities of people tucked away that still are living like they did in 1873.

wearing 6 guns and riding horses into their small town.

i guess probablly not but..... if there was such a place, i bet there would be folks interested in living there.

maybe kind of like a williamsburg  Va...... but old west instead of the colonial days.

it would be a tough life for sure... but can you imagine......REAL cowboy culture.... folks workin hard living with the old values...maybe even a water pump in the kitchen. LOL

wouldnt it be interesting.  I know there are ranches and people make a living raising cattle but things are so high tech these days. is there an old west community that time forgot anywhere out there?

i know of a group of people living closely to that in a remote valley in northen nevada.  i havent been there.... i've only heard of them.

no electricity.... just livin the old ways.

just thought i would share my thoughts.

if you could.... would you do it?

do you know of any places like that?

i think as long as i had my guns and my horses..... i'd sure give it a try.

i guess i am just daydreaming this afternoon.... maybe watching too many episodes of the Virginian.  LOL

Oh yeah... i am familiar with the Amish and their community might be about as close as it gets to the old west. LOL
Thanks for your reply
There is a place in Texas called "Merribone Springs" where people go and spend weekends living like the old west. There used to be web site for it. I just did a search and couldn't find it. Seems like a real nice place. Visiting there is by invitation only. Attendees can build a building / house there if they choose. Land is owned by a doctor who founded the place. A big building that no doubt had existed on the property originally was converted into a restaurant.
Howdy Wolfgang,
You are right, but you missed the name by a piece, it's Marrow Bone Springs, owned by a gent we call Doc Croaker. You can find out more at http://www.gunfighter.com/cgi-bin/bbs/perform-a/perform-a.cgi?read=... and http://mloufindley.com/articles.htm

That's why I couldn't find it. Used to have the links bookmarked but were lost the last time I had a "crash". Now have all my bookmarks backed up.

Leslie, Have you visited Laredo? and do they allow visiting there?
Last winter after an ice storm I spent a week without power, water or heat.
Wasn't that great a time living the old ways but my years as a Boy Scout leader made it bearable.

I'm sure there are many out there somewhere that do live that way but the reality shows haven't found them yet.

I do enjoy the fact that I can wear my '78 Thunderer on my hip while out walking Cody and I have a freind that used to ride his horse to the local bar on Saturday night in RI.
I lived for a year and a half without electricity or running water, . . . and loved it. Cabin I lived in here: www.drburkholter.com/cf8.html
As much as most of us here love the Old West, I doubt very many would actually care to live as they had to. We like our creature comforts too much.

I have long thought that such a place, for a vaction site, would be a great idea. A few years ack I was talking to theperson that at that time) owned the Triangle T ranch at Dragoon, AZ. They already had a good saloon and cabins. We discussed the idea of making the whole place into a "Old West" town but the discussion never wnt beyond talk. I think she sold the place a few months later. Too bad, it would have been a good place for that.

But, back to the original question, I just do not see many folks actually willing to live as they did in those old days.

Besides, how we would be able to come here and post out thoughts?
