I thought that there was already a thread on this, but can start one.

What is your favorite movie gunfight? While I don't have a particular single favorite I do like the one in How The West Was Won aboard the train.

From what I understand one of the stunt men was killed filming this.

I've got to vote for two,, the final shootouts in both Appaloosa and Open Range. No "fast draw" crap, just walk out and start shooting.

Hi Stan,

I have to agree with your opinion of Open Range. When Kevin Costner walked up and asked "are you the one shot our friend?" and does not say another word but hooks and draws, I really sat up in my chair for a good portrayal of what I believed was going to be a more real to life western gunfight.

I agree with Stan,  They would seem to be truer to the old western gunfights.  Talking is over, just start shooting.
My favorite is when the "Man with no Name" shoots the bounty hunter in " The Outlaw Josey Wales".
"Dyin' ain't much of a livin', boy".
Dont forget Ride the high country, great movie.
For a comic gunfight, the gunfight at the end of ALIAS JESSE JAMES--Bob Hope movie--is a sidesplitter.  All of a sudden Hope's got a lot of help.  Roy Rogers gets into it, a bunch of TV Western stars including Fess Parker in his full Davy Crockett get up, & ending with Bing Crosby, who says "This boy needs all the help he can get."

I'm with you Stan, they are on the top of my list as well.
The Outlaw Josie Wales had allot of good gunfights same with Tombstone and Silverado.
I like Silverado. It's a "B" western script with a big buget. So they could have more super heros, more bad, bad baddies, and more damsils in distress. Just a good old fashoned saterday matinee. Like watched as a kid.
There's a few. Perhaps, though, I would put the one the between Shane and Wilson at the top. For second I would nominate that one moment where General Mapache slits Angel's throat and Pike immediately, without hesitation, shoots Mapache; then a long moment later, spies the German and shoots him, starting the battle. The gunfight between Cooper and Lancaster in Vera Cruz is classic - Lancaster all white teeth grinning in the sun. And then there's Tombstone....
The report at the time was that the How The West Was Won stuntman got his leg caught between the seesawing logs & the leg was cut off.  He was married to one of the big-name stars, but I don't remember which one.  I never heard that he died of it, tho.
