Event Description

The 10th annual West Texas Book & Music Festival will be held in downtown Abilene on September 20-25, 2010. We'll have brown bag programs with Texas authors at the Abilene Public Library Wednesday through Friday; and Pickin' in the Park live music in Minter Park every day at noon.

Tuesday evening at Abilene Public Library, local authors who have published in the past 12 months are honored during a reception. Thursday night's Texas Cookbook Gala fundraiser includes a gourmet dining experience with recipes drawn from some of the best new Texas cookbooks of the year paired with the best in Texas wines. Mix and mingle with some of the finest chefs and vintners in the Lone Star State at the Abilene Country Club, with proceeds to benefit the Friends of the Abilene Public Library.

On Friday, featured and local authors visit Abilene schools to share their joy in writing with students of all ages. All day Saturday the 25th, the Abilene Civic Center will bustle with author workshops and networking in the Hall of Texas Authors, where you can also meet the featured authors and purchase books and music of all kinds. The A.C. Greene award will be presented at the Boots & Books luncheon, our newest event is a Gospel Music Concert and the day draws to a close with the Gospel Hymnfest, where hundreds gather to sing the great old hymns we all know and love. Most events are free. For more information, contact Publicity Chair Janis Test at 325-676-6025 or look at:http://www.abilenetx.com/apl/bookfest_general.html.
