On Jan. 6, 100 years ago, President William Howard Taft met with a delegation of New Mexico residents and signed the proclamation making New Mexico the 47th state, ending a 62-year-long wait. Featuring professional actor Dale Liikala of Ohio as President Taft, the museum's living history program presents a dramatic re-enactment of this event -- 100 years to the minute after the actual event in Washington D.C. Admission is free. A Centennial Luncheon follows as a fundraiser for the museum's Friends organization and the NMSU Foundation. Dr. Jon Hunner will speak on New Mexico's struggle for statehood. Tickets are $25. Visitors can also view the Museum's Centennial exhibits.
